Dr. Rodríguez is a expert in weight loss and non-pharmacologic obesity management. He is the 2008 recipient of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Service Award in recognition of outstanding scholarly excellence and Strong Commitment to Dr King’s Ideals from Florida State University.
Dr. Rodríguez is a board-certified family physician and Associate Professor at the Florida State University College of Medicine. Previously, he was working as an Assistant Professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he served on various committees and was an active instructor in all four years of the curriculum.
He is founder and director of “Health not Cosmetics,” a lifestyle-based approach to weight loss and healthy living. He has presented at several conferences on obesity in underserved minority populations. He is also the author of numerous articles on obesity, minority health, medical education and health disparities. He co-authored with Michelle May, MD a Spanish lifestyle modification workbook entitled “Tendré Hambre? Cuaderno del manejo del peso y diario de motivación.” (Am I Hungry? Weight Management Workbook and Motivation Diary). Recently he been working with students on reflective narratives, which have been published in major academic journals. He is also an assistant editor for the Family Practice Inquiries Network, the publisher of "Clinical Inquiries" and "Evidence Based Practice."
An avid runner, he and his wife have just completed their second marathon. When not teaching, he divides his time among his family, church, family medicine, and bariatrics.
